I hope everyone had a nice Holiday Season. Sorry I haven't been posting anything lately, or answering comments; (I really appreciate your support) I really haven't even been on my site much in the last month, I've been pretty busy, and to be honest; I've kind of lost my inspiration. I turned on my computer tonight to find that Megaupload has been shut down. If you would like to check it out, here's a LINK. I had over 500 records on that site, which I'm going to assume are all lost. So basically I lost my files, and I have no file hosting service anymore; which by the way was payed for through the fall. This is certainly a big blow to me, and this blog. I'm really not sure what I want to do, maybe it's time. I'm gonna sleep on it, and see what happens with these file hosting sites. The way the article sounds, I wouldn't be surprised to see them take down all the major file hosting sites, so even if I were to move to another one, it might just be a waste of money. Once again, no matter what happens; I'd like to thank all of the people who've supported this blog over the last few years. I met many cool people, and really learned allot about many bands, and records, that have been sitting in my collection for years. This blog really made collecting fun again.

The Bangs (Sidetracks'd EP)

The Bangs were a six piece, from Union City, NJ who I presume formed sometime around 1978. They became fairly popular, opening for acts like Pat Benatar, The Pretenders, The Stray Cats, and Iggy Pop. The Bangs sound ranged from 50’s, and 60’s Rock N Roll, and R&B, to Powerpop. Their records were released on their own East West Record Label, which was also the name of a novelty store based in Union City, owned by their manager Alex Suvino; singer, Gary Roupenian worked in the store. I read somewhere, the Bangs had threatened to sue the (then LA Bangs), forcing them to change their name to the Bangles; but I’m not sure if that’s true. The Bangs released three EP’s before they disbanded, although it appears they re-united a few years ago.Much of the info for this post, came from The Bangs Myspace, go check it out.

The Monitors, were a four piece from Cleveland; that formed in 1980. This single was their only official release. In 1982 they relocated to San Francisco, and disbanded. If you would like to read more about The Monitors, here’s a page interviewing front man Nelson Yandura.

The Nubs were a three piece from San Francisco. As far as I know this was their only single. I found this page from a couple of years ago. At the time, they had reformed, been playing out, and released a CD, with this single, as well as a bunch of tracks that I think were recorded later. I've never heard the disc, and I'm not sure if it's still available, or even if The Nubs are still around or not. I know this one can be found other places on the net, but someday when it's time to put this blog to rest; It wouldn't be right to have not included this classic.

If I didn't know better, I would guess this record was from the 90’s. It has many of the attributes that became popular with many of the PopPunk bands from that era, ( driving guitars, nasally vocals), especially the B side (not that that’s a bad thing mind you). As it turns out, The Protagonists were a four piece from Naperville, Illinois; a city about 30 miles west of Chicago. They formed sometime in the early 80’s, and I think this may have been their only record. According to their Facebook Page; they were 16 year old High School kids, at the time. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything else about the band.

White Boy were a father son duo from Washington DC, that were around from 1977 to 1983. Mr. Ott, and Jake Whipp, were the only constants; the rest of the line up was somewhat of a revolving door throughout the existence of the band. Their first single, “Sagittarius Bumpersticker” was released in 77, and is credited as being one of the earliest punk records to come from DC area. White Boy’s recorded output, (as far as I know?) was four singles, (this being the third) and a 12” ep all on their own Doodley Squat Record Label.

Babylon Dance Band (When I'm Home Single)

Kentucky doesn't necessarily have the warmest place in my heart, but I do like this record; Remains Of The Beat kind of reminds me of The Dicks a little bit. Anyway, In short I lived in a small town called Morehead, KY for a summer when I was a young man. Things didn't work out, I didn't fit in, and as a result; I found myself hitchhiking on Route 64 with a twenty dollar bill in my pocket across the state. I remember walking through Louisville at 3 o'clock in the mourning, looking at a sign that said "Welcome to Louisville Home Of The Kentucky Derby", on my way over a bridge that spanned into Indiana. I fell asleep under a tree in a small industrial park, and woke up in the mourning with a snake on me. I turned around, and hitchhiked all the way back to Pennsylvania. Maybe if I could have hooked up with the right people things could have been different. Babylon Dance Band were one of Louisville, KY’s earliest punk bands; they were around from 1978 – 1983.The band was formed by childhood friends, Chip Nold, and Tim Harris. Tara Key was recruited from the band “No Fun”, and after multiple drummers, Sean Mulhall, joined the group through a newspaper ad. Their recorded output was a cut on a four way split titled “New Accounts”, two singles, and a reunion LP in 1994 called “Four On One”. If you want to read more on the band, check out this site.

The Daughters (The Daughters EP)

The Daughters were a short lived three piece from Boston, who formed in the early eighties. They sporadically, opened for, and backed former New York Dolls guitarist Johnny Thunders. Joe Mazzari, has a website that’s defiantly worth checking out. I believe this single was their only release. There were a series of recording sessions for an LP, but it remains unreleased.

Riff Doctors (I Don't Want To Go Single)

Riff Doctors were a short lived four piece from (I believe) the Hoboken NJ area. I found a track on one of the Teenline comps that suggests they were from Durham, NC, ? Anyway, I'm pretty sure this was their only record; it was put out on Steve Fallon’s Coyote records label, who formerly owned Maxwell’s, a great club in Hoboken. After this, Donna Esposito, (formerly of The Cyclones) joined the band, and they changed their name to “Cowboy, and Spin Girl”. As usual, information is very limited; so if I have something wrong, or there’s something you would like to add, please feel free.

Ambush were a four piece, that appear to have been from Indiana. This was recorded at Home Grown Studios, in Bloomington; so who knows. I found zilch in the way of info; except a couple of LPs that I don't believe are the same band. The winner here (for my money) is the flip side, "Tell Me"; it's a great slice of fuzzed out Powerpop, but the A side is descent as well . If anyone would like to shed some light on this mystery band, don't be shy.

The Disconnects (...Are Healthy EP)

The Disconnects are a Neptune City, NJ four piece that have a great retro seventies edge with allot of New York Rock–n-Roll Attitude. Musically they make no secret of who their influences are, think: Heartbreakers, Dead Boys, Ramones. I got to see them live at their record release show for this EP last week, and I really enjoyed them. Front man Ryan Switzer, has a great stage presence, and is a really nice guy. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to talk to the rest of the band, but they were tight, and really seemed to enjoy themselves. I think there were only 30 people there, but they blasted through their set as if they were playing for a thousand; to me, that’s the sign of a good band. I believe this EP was first released as a cassette, and even the vinyl is in a very limited supply. In all I think the pressing is limited to 300 copies; 200 on black, and 100 on glow in the dark vinyl; that’s the one I bought. I included the first two tracks for you to check out, if you want to pick up a copy you can get one Here. I’m looking forward to hearing more from these guys in the future.

The Frenchmen were a four piece from Erie, PA that were around from 1977, to 1980. This is the first of their two releases on the Endangered Species Record Label. A second single simply calling them the F Men on the sleeve was released in 1980 containing the tracks: Small Town Boy, Now Maybe, and Dirty Dishes Wicked Wishes. John Drumm, also played keyboards in Pistol Whip. Info is a bit scarce on these guys, so if I’m wrong about something; or you have anything to add, please feel free.

The Blases (All Night Long Single + Bonus LP Tracks)

The Blases were a New Jersey four piece that formed in 1979.They became a very popular live band; playing many of the NJ bars and clubs, as well as receiving allot of college radio airplay during the ‘80s through the ‘90s. Videos for the songs "You Don't Know Me", and "Time Walks Away", both were aired on MTV. A video for All Night Long appeared in a film titled "Rockin' Brunswick"; a movie that focused on the thriving ‘80s music scene. Sadly Bassist Paul "Rock" Verdon, who played on this, the bands first single died in a train accident, in 1985. An LP Titled "The Blases" was released in 1989, on the Permanent Rave Record Label. I included a few tracks from it with the post. I'm not sure if The Blases released anything else or not. I found This webpage, that links up to their videos.

Great Pop Singles, That Won't Brake Your Wallet,Vol.1

These days it seems, (to me anyway) that many records are regarded more for their rarity, and worth; rather than the content that lies in the grooves. I thought it would be fun to post a few singles, that can be had without breaking your wallet. That's not to say that there's not many great high dollar records out there as well. I just wanted to start a periodic series that appreciates some Pop records that are just as great; but can be had for less money.

The Searchers (Hearts In Her Eyes Single)

The Searchers are a four piece from Liverpool that originally formed around 1957, as a five piece. After countless line-ups, and records I believe The Searchers are still at it with John McNally, being the only original member. This little Powerpop gem is also found on their 1979 LP titled, "Searchers". If you would like to know more about the group; here's a link for their Official Website. The line-up on this record was:

The Pinkees were a great Beatles influenced five piece from Basildon, in Essex, that were around for a short time in the early 80's. I also included a few bonus tracks from their excellent self titled LP for your listening pleasure. I think they had a couple more singles, and that was it.

Shake (Invasion Of The Gamma Men Single)

Shake were a short lived four piece from Scotland that formed after the disbanding of the Rezillos, in 1978. The line-up consisted of, Troy Tate, (Guitar/Dialogue) ex Index, future Teardrop Explodes, together with former Rezillos: Jo Callis, (Vocals/Guitar) Simon Templar, (Bass/Vocals) and Angle Paterson,(Drums). Shake released a 10” ep titled “Culture Shock”, and this single before calling it quits.

Snips (9 O'Clock Single)

I’m not really sure about my facts on this one; so if anyone wants to correct me, have at it. Snips a.k.a Steve Parsons grew up in Bridlington, Yorkshire. He was lead singer for a number of bands including:The Baker Gurvitz Army, and Sharks. He released a pair of LPs: "Video King" and "La Rocca!" in the late 70’s, early 80’s. This single was taken from “La Rocca”; the LP was supported by the likes of Bill Nelson, Chris Spedding, and Midge Ure.

I started this blog to share mostly old records, not to review new material; so please don't view this as a green light to bombard me with emails, asking me to review your bands release. It's nothing personal, I'm sure your band is great, and I'm honored you think enough of this site to ask; but it's just not a direction I wish this site to head in. With that said, I have a couple of newer records that I promised to review; and then after that I think I'm going to stick to, for the most part, pre 1990's, unless it's something that really strikes me.

I noticed the great Wilfully Obscure blog, articulately reviewed this the other day; which makes this post a bit redundant, but I like the disc, Dot Dash seem like nice guys, and I already said I would review it, so here it goes.

Dot Dash are a Washington D.C. four piece who's influences are bands like: The Jam, Joy Division, and The Byrds. Musically one might expect this, to have a Wire influence; but other than its clean minimalist production, and upfront vocals, similarities pretty much end there . To my ears, this disc has a moody Indy feel to it; with a hint of British Pop Sense sprinkled in. Singer/Guitarist, Terry Banks, formerly of bands such as: Julie Ocean, The Saturday People, Tree Fort Angst, Glo-Worm, and St. Christopher, reminds me at times of Robert Smith, from The Cure. Other members include: Hunter Bennett - Bass, also from Julie Ocean, Bill Crandall - Guitar, from Modest Proposal, and Danny Ingram - Drums, previously of bands such as: Swervedriver, Strange Boutique, and Youth Brigade, who (in my opinion) released one of the most brutal, blistering Hardcore/Punk records ever. Overall this is a solid debut effort, with some nice Guitar work. Spark > Flame > Ember > Ash, offers some well crafted Pop melodies; along with a few darker tracks to keep things interesting. I picked three songs for preview; if you like what you hear, you can pick the disc up from the Canadian Label, Beautiful Music. It's also available for download from Itunes, and they Have a Facebook page. If you would like to check out Dot Dash live; their next outing will be at The Black Cat, along with The Chameleons, Nov. 28th in DC.

The Razz were a five piece from Washington, DC. I'm not exactly sure when they formed but I'm guessing it was around 1977, and were around till 1979. I think this was their second, (officially released) single; it came out on their own O'Rourke Records label, in conjunction with Limp Records. Members went on to play in bands such as Nightman, and The Howling Mad.

I found the page a little confusing; as far as when the band formed, ended, and line-ups. The Modulators (She's So Cynical Single Plus LP Bonus Tracks)

Yesterday I got a chance to see one of my favorite NJ 80's Powerpop bands. They played a handful of their classics in celebration of the re-release of their "Tomorrows Coming LP", at Vintage Vinyl, a long time record store in Fords NJ. I posted both their LP, and this single when I started this blog a few years back. Since the LP is back in print, and I was never really happy with quality of those early post's; I decided to take both post's down; and replace them with this post of their classic single, and a few bonus Lp tracks; this isn't from the new disc' I re-recorded them myself. If you would like to purchase the LP, you can pick one up through Kool Kats Musik, or through Amazon, for 12.00. I don't usually add Utube footage to my post's but I wanted you to see that after all these years, these guys definitely still have it. This was shot yesterday at the in store appearance that I attended; I would like to thank Mark for the great footage. If you like what you hear, The Modulators are part of The International Pop Overthrow Festival, go check them out.

The Modulators were a NJ three piece (now a Four piece) who played around the NJ, NY area quite a bit in the early 80's, especially The Dirt Club in Bloomfield NJ. In all they released two singles, this being the second, an LP called Tomorrow's Coming, and they had a cut on The Dirt Club Comp, Vol, 1. Both this single as well as the LP were on Vintage Vinyl Records. Joe Riccardello, who originally played Bass, and split Vocal duties, used to work in the original Irvington store. I got to meet him yesterday, and he was a very nice guy. He now handles the guitar rhythm section in their new four piece line up. If you would like to read more on the band, I found THIS cool page.

The Stepford Husbands (Why Aren't You There? Single)

My favorite holiday, "Halloween", is right around the corner; and although this isn't really Halloween related, it's got a great creepy primitive sound, that gets me in the mood. The Stepford Husbands (at least on this record) were a duo comprised of Dave Amels, and Gary Thomas; Cryptovision Record's label boss Mike Linn, filled in on Drums. They formed in N.Y.C., sometime in the early eighties, and released: five singles, (this being the first) and a full length. I have the new RIfles LP

In case I never mentioned it; I'm a huge Rifles fan. I'm listening to the new LP called "Freedom Run" right now, and I just wanted to comment on it. While it's less edgier than their previous LP's, it definitely has it's moments. I'm listening to a song at the moment called Nothing Matters; that's worth the price of admission alone. It's giving me chills, a truly beautiful piece of music.

The Patriots - Chicaynes (Split E.P's 12")

Here's a split E.P., between two unlikely record mates. The Patriots, were A four piece from Philadelphia; that had a great 60's sounding jangly Beatlesque edge. I think this E.P., (known as Pharaoh's Land) was their only official release. The other side is The Chicaynes, a more modern sounding three piece Pop band from the UK. I posted their Further Thought Single a while back; you can find it HERE. There's not much info out there on either of these bands. I can't help but wonder how it was decided to pair these two bands together; not only are they from different countries, but the recordings appear to have been five years apart?

Boston's Jimmy Vigtone released this, their only single in 1982. It's the result of songs recorded while Jimmy was working in a recording studio. There was a band to back the record called the Vigtones that were around for a short time; but parted ways due to musical differences. After the Vigtones, Jimmy went on to The Clicks. Unfortunately, The sleeve on my copy has seen better days, but at least you get to hear it. For my money, When The Radio's on, should have been the A side; I Like It, the Gerry and The Pacemakers cover(for me) is just so so.

Spooner (Where You Gonna Run ? single)

Here's the second single from Madison Wisconsin's, Spooner. Doug Erikson, (Guitars, and Lead Vocals) and Dave Benten, (Guitars, and Vocals) began playing together, while at Wayne State College. The two moved to Madison in 1975, and were joined by Butch Vig, (Drums). By 1978, Joel Tappero, (Bass) and Jeff Walker, (Keyboards) completed the Line-up. Besides this record, Spooner also has Two other singles, as well as three full lengths. After Spooner, Doug Erikson, and Butch Vig, went on to form bands such as: Fire Town, and Garbage. Here's a classic single from San Francisco's, The Mutants. They formed around 1977, and released this single as well as an LP titled "Fun Terminal". The Mutants, (at least on this record) were an army, at seven members. My favorite track here is definitely "New Dark Ages"; I think it has a dark Wipers feel to it. Most copies I've seen have a green The Mutants Stamp, or print over the black print; I guess they forgot, on my copy. I think they decided to called it quits, around 1982. Both sides of this are well played, catchy, UK Powerpop; but if I had to pick, my favorite is Turn Out The Light.

I just realised, on September Second; this blog officially has existed for three years. I missed it's anniversary, oh well. I started this blog, out of boredom. I had ACL reconstruction surgery, and I was off my feet for a while. Early on, I must admit I knew very little about computers; so I winged it, and learned as I went. I was confined to my chair, and I would literally post eight, to sometimes ten records at a time; I had nothing else to do(you can only watch so much Jerry Springer!). Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed the site; I guess I'll keep it up, until I totally despise doing it. Since It's a special occasion, (and I'm Bored!) here's a second post today.

Jerry's Kidz were from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I believe this classic little slice of hardcore, was their only vinyl release. There was a Demo Cassette, titled Counting Calories. You can download it, along with some live tracks over at The cool Noise Addiction Blog. My copy is the second press; I cropped it a bit, because its quite oversized. I made the B side, one track because its too close of an edit; and I didn't want to ruin it. Unfortunately only first names are given on the back side of the cover; if anyone knows their last names, please feel free to fill in the blanks.

The Henchmen were a Auckland, New Zealand four piece, that formed from the ashes of an earlier outfit called, The Dum Dum Boys. I Believe this was their third single; I'm not exactly sure when it was released, the article linked below says 1985, but I think it was recorded earlier. After numerous line up changes; they eventually moved to Sydney, Australia and changed their name again to Reptiles At Dawn. That Hideous Strength were a three piece from Brooklyn N.Y. I couldn't find much info on the band. They did release another single; But I don't remember ever hearing it. I'm not sure whether, or not this record was actually meant to be taken seriously; (but in my opinion) More Powerful Than A Steaming Locomotive, is excellent. It's one of those songs, that's hard enough to keep your attention; but it's quirkiness, and sense of humor, make it a classic.

If I had to guess without looking at the record sleeve, where these guys were from; my first guess would definitely be Australia. But The Libertines were actually from Cincinnati Oh. The band originally formed as a three piece in 1983. Only the band members first names, are listed on the back of the sleeve. Members were: Walt, (Guitar, and Vocals) Randy, (Bass) and Joe (Drums). I think this was the bands second single, and it appears to have been self released. If you would like to find out more about The Libertines; I found This Myspace. The Marbles were a N.Y.C four piece; that formed in 1974 by brothers: Howard, (Guitars, and Vocals) and David Bowler, (Drums); Jim Clifford, (Bass) and the late Eric Li, (Keyboards) rounded out the Lineup. This was their first of two singles before they ended the band in 1979. I believe this was the third release on the late Terry Ork's, short lived Ork Records Label. The Marbles also appeared in Amos Poe's 1976 film, "Blank Generation". There were several tracks recorded for a CBGB'S comp that went unreleased. I'm guessing this record wasn't meant, to be taken very seriously. (But, at least for me anyway); the cover of Arthur Alexander's "Soldier Of Love" makes this worth owning. You get three other instrumental covers as well. Eric Rosenfeld, (Guitar) and Andy Paley, (Guitar, and background Vocals) were previously in the Boston outfit, The Sidewinders(a band that also included Billy Squire). Other band members were: Jim Freeman, (Drums) Chuck Chaplin, (Piano) and Jim Skinner, (Vocals). I couldn't find anything else on these guys; this might be their only release. If you read the back of the sleeve; there's a pretty funny story on the bands origins.

Swingers Resort were a three piece from Boston. I couldn't find allot of info on the band; but I'm going to take a guess they formed around 1980, and were around for at least a few years. I'm not sure; but this may have been their only single. I have however seen a more plain looking sleeve variation, (maybe a earlier press?). At some point original Bassist, B.C. Kagan left the band to pursue a Photography career; and was replaced by Mark Normand. After Swingers Resort; Drummer Tom Bull went on to play with The Outlets, and others.

The Punsters (We're Drunk Again EP)

Keeping in line with the Summer theme; I thought this would be a fun record to post. Honestly, I really don't know much about The Punsters, and there's not much online about them as a group. Most of the info online surrounds Robert Kaplow , who seems to have started the band; and is an Author, as well as an English teacher in Summit, New Jersey. I'm not sure if The Punsters were a real band, or a joke, (no pun intended). I found evidence of a Moe Moskowitz and the Punsters, who apparently did a number of parodies, and sketches for National Public Radio’s Morning Edition. Other than this single,(which looks as though it was self released) I've seen an LP a few times, but I never picked it up. If you look on Utube there's a few Punsters videos you can check out. The other Punsters were: Tim Korzun, Marc Lanzoff, and Carmen Presti.

It's been really hot lately; here in my neck of the woods. The thermometer's hit triple digits the last two days; so I thought I would post something with a summer feel to it. Even though it's not the same line-up; I included a Bonus track I've always liked from The American Youth Report.
Red Cross were from Hawthorne, California; they formed around 1980, and this was their first E.P. Band members on this EP were: Jeff McDonald, (Vocals) Steve McDonald, (Bass) Greg Hetson, (Guitar) and Ron Reyes, (Drums). I believe at the time this was recorded, the McDonald brothers were fairly young. As I'm sure most of you already know; Greg Hetson, went on to the Circle Jerks, and eventually Bad Religion; and Ron Reyes, (Chavo) went on to Black Flag. I guess not too long after this EP the band changed the spelling of their name to avoid legal action. The Sighs were a four piece from Holyoke, Massachusetts; that formed around 1982. Their first single was an absolute classic that included the songs, "She's Not The Girl I Used To Know", backed with one of my favorite powerpop songs, "I'm Really Allright". Unfortunately, I've only ever seen it a couple of times, and couldn't afford the hefty price tag when I did. But fortunately for us, my friend Jason Litchfield, was kind enough to rip, and send it to me; so I included it. The Sighs EP, was released a few years later in 1985. It's a little more polished, but still a strong effort; the stand out song as far as I'm concerned is, "Bedroom Craze". I believe, Both the single, and the EP were self released. The Sighs followed up with a pair of solid LP's in the 90's titled: "What Goes On", and "Different" before calling it a day; both LP's are worth owning, and shouldn't be to hard to find. I did see, they did a reunion show in 2008, so maybe the Sighs aren't finished yet? I Found This Facebook page, that has some great live footage worth checking out. Jim Bob And The Leisure Suits were a four piece from Birmingham, Alabama that formed around 1979. I've read claims they were one of the first Punk bands to come from that area. They released two singles, and this LP, on their own Polyester Records Label. Out of the three, this is my favorite; by 1983, the band called it quits. Band members were: Leif Bondarenko, Matt Kimbrell, Henrik (Mots) Roden, and Craig Izard. Roden and Bondarenko went on to form the Primitons with Brad Dorset. Kimbrell joined up with the Ho Ho Men and The Mambo Combo. They Released this EP, and a single; on what I'm guessing, was their own Adventure Records Label. If they had any other releases; I've never seen them. I have a few EP's,and LP's I plan on posting in the near future. I'm only going to pick a few songs from each one. If you like what you hear, they shouldn't be overly expensive, or too hard to find. Let's start with Belmar, New Jersey's Holme. They got their start in the 70's, and are still active to present day. I Found THIS website, if you would like to check them out. For me, the song Weekend is the stand out track here; its a great powerpop tune with a cool New Wave edge to it. Other than this, they had a single in 1978 titled "Feel This Record" on Thin Ice Records. I don't remember seeing any other records from these guys; but that doesn't mean anything. The Nils (Glory Daze)

I've been wanting to post a Nils record for a while; but I couldn't decide which one(I like them all). Since I couldn't make up my mind; I thought it would be cool to put together a comp, with a few of my favorites from each release. I used the cover from the "Paisley ep" which is pretty hard to find these days. The Nils were from Montreal, Canada; they were around from 1978, through 1994. Although the band went through a number of line up changes; the core was brothers: Alex, and Carlos, Soria. Before they called it quits, the Nils released; one Demo Cassette, two ep's, one full length, and a few Comp tracks. In 1997, Mag Wheel Records released a retrospective compilation titled "Green Fields In Daylight". I borrowed the first three tracks for this from it; but I riped the rest from vinyl. Green Fields has these songs as well, minus the LP tracks; but I never felt the quality was that great. Sadly, in 2004, Alex Soria committed suicide; if you'd like, you can read about it HERE. I found THIS PAGE as well for reading. Unfortunately, (in my opinion) The Nils were another one of those bands, that really weren't appreciated like they should have been. I stumbled upon this while browsing Ebay about a month ago. A most excellent seller was kind enough to have a sample for previewing. The song, "Is It Ever Gonna Change" instantly sunk its hooks into my brain; and I decided I had to have it. It rose to around $70.00, and unfortunately, I had to let it go. A couple of weeks went by and to my surprise I found another one for sale. This time however, it went for half the price, and it became mine. I'm doing all this rambling, because there's absolutely no information to be found on this band what so ever. There's not even a date on the record. So, unless any of you have any information on this great record; I guess it will remain a mystery.

Here's a great record from Cleveland, Ohio's The Broncs. The title track, and Reason to whine, (for me) are both cool, but Reason to whine is my favorite of the two, I'm a sucker for a walking bass line. The Broncs shared members with Cleveland outfits such as: The Pagans, The Offbeats, and The AK-47's. I'm pretty sure this was their only record, and it came in two sleeve variations, I think this is a second press. Band Band members were: Keith/Lair Matic, (Vocals) Tim Allee, (Guitars, and Vocals) Rand Primos, (Bass) and Bart Hidebrant, (Drums). The Hysteric Narcotics were a Detroit area band that formed in 1983, and lasted till 1989. During that time span, they released four singles, (this being the second) an Lp titled "Batteries Not Included" which I included a couple of my favorite tunes from, (both are covers) and four comp. appearances. Since the break up, they've kept the band alive through a number of reunion shows, and in 2010 released a 25-song retrospective CD called, “From the Desolation Where the Greasewood Grows,” on the Gangplank Records Label . Here's a great single from one of a few bands, (at least that I'm aware of) that went by the name The Agents. This one, from what little information I could find, appear to have been from Wisconsin. Other than this record, they had a track called I Cant Wait To See You on a Milwaukee sampler called State Of The Art Vol 1 that I don't own. Modern Girl is a classic Powerepop tune that makes this a must. The flip is ok, but it has a 80's glam, hairband feel to it. The Internet yielded zero about these guys, so as usual; if anyone wants to add anything, please feel free.

The Secrets* were from Kansas City, they formed in 1978, and this was their first single, only 1000 were pressed. This is my favorite release from Titan Records. They also released a comp track, another single, and an LP containing a more slick version of It's Your Heart Tonight; that you can find over at The Sons Of The Dolls Blog. I guess around 1983 they called it a day. There's a 2 disc set of Titan Records releases called "It's All Pop", that you can find HERE . Band members were: Brent Hoad, (Guitar, and Vocals) Norm Dahlor, (Bass) Steve Davis, (Lead Guitar) Pat Tomek, (Drums).

The Sunnyboys have been a long time favorite of mine. If this site continues long enough, and if no one complains; I can see myself posting most, if not all of their early releases. In my opinion they're all classics. I actually intended on posting another record, when I stumbled upon this. It was recorded in Sydney, at The Chevron Hotel, and The Maroubra Seals Club, in 1984, as part of their farewell tour. I guess it wasn't real long after this, that the Sunnyboys decided to call it a day. I posted their first single a few years ago, if your interested, there's a band bio there as well.

The Toasters were from LA California. They formed in 1979, and I'm pretty sure this was their only single. They also had a great track on "Waves" a comp from Bomp Records, that I included for your listening pleasure. I read in 1982, they recorded a demo for RCA Records. Unfortunately, they weren't picked up; and a year or two later, they disbanded. If anyone has a copy of the Demo, I'd love to hear it. Band members were: Mark Lee,( Keyboards, Lead Vocals) Bruce Kaplan, (Guitars) Marc Navez, (Bass, and Vocals) and David Doolittle (Drums). The Roulettes were a studio band who originally went by the name Laguna. Based in LA, band members were originally from Boise ID, I'm pretty sure this was their only release. Sadly,Bart Bishop (Vocals, Guitars, and Organ) passed away a couple of years ago. I found THIS PAGE, set up by his son Graham, where you can donate money to a non profit organisation, called Green For All. Other band members were : Jim Lowry, (Bass) Jeff Holman, (Drums) and Tom Mcmeekan (Lead Guitar, and back up vocals).

Here's a great E'P' from L.A's The Corsairs. I couldn't find much info, on the band, mostly just opinion.Other than this, a second single was released on their own "Pirate records" label in(1986)titled, Love On The Run. A comp titled Idealistic Youth, compiling some California 80s Mod bands has two Corsairs tracks: Round And Round, and Love On The Run. Sorry I haven't posted anything for a while; I've been taking a break.I have a real love, hate, relationship with this site. Last month I was ready to pull the plug, and erase the whole thing; and then I thought, maybe I should step back, and not be so hasty. I realised it would be a shame to wipe it out, especially after putting so much time into it,( time that I should have been spending with my family). I literally have piles of records picked out to post, but for some reason, I've lost my inspiration. I'm hoping a hiatus, will help me to regain some of the fire I once had. I have a question??? I've seen this record a few times over the years, but had never heard it. I just recently felt compelled to pick one up, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. Side one is so, so but the flip, All Of Your Love, is a catchy little Powerpop Gem; that makes this a must. I'm pretty sure the State A's were from upstate NY; funny thing is, this single was recorded in a small town a few miles up the road from me, called Saylorsburg, PA. I couldn't find much in the way of info, if anyone would like to fill in the blanks please feel free. I did find THIS site, that has a Bio, as well as a few releases from Will Hoppey, (Guitar, and Vocals) for sale. Here's another great moody punk record; if you like it, this ones much easier to find though. Apartment were from Bristol; they originally formed in 1978, as a three piece, but added Steve Street of the Europeans on bass, sometime after this (their only single) was released. Apartment also had a track on the classic Bristol comp, "Avon Calling" that I included with the download for you. Due to the lack of a record deal, the band split in 1980. Years later, other recordings showed up on Comps such as: "Western Stars", The Reissue of "Avon Calling", and "Avon Calling 2".If you would like to read more about Apartment, Here's a couple of sites to check out.

Here's a great dark sounding Synth Punk Record. Trax were a five piece from Dunfermline, Scotland. They formed in 1978, calling themselves Straits; but changed their name to Trax due to a conflict of name with a band from York. I found THIS cool website where you can read about Trax in detail, as well as other bands who played the Kinema Ballroom. According to the page, Trax had written 40 songs, but it looks as though this self released effort was their only record; sometime in 1980 they called it quits. Band Members were: Willie Adamson, (Vocals) Derek Armstrong, (Bass, and Vocals) Nobby Martin, (Keyboards) Dougie Ross, (Guitar) and Tony Taylor (Drums).

The Original Sins (Party's Over)

Here's a band from my back yard, that I've had the pleasure of seeing live a few times over the years. The Original Sins were from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and were around since 1987. Their last LP was in 1996, but for all I know they may still get together once in a while. John Terlesky (Vocals, and Guitar)was also in The Creatures, as well as a few other projects, such as : Fuzzface, Crush Nova, Suffacox, Brother JT, and Vibrolux. As of 2007 he was still releasing records under Brother JT, but I'm not sure if he's still doing that either. The sins released at least 9 full lengths, and a half a dozen singles. This is my favorite Sins record, oddly enough, it was released on the Australian Dog Meat Label. Party's Over is a compilation of songs, and unreleased outtakes from their The Hardest Way cd, as well as a remix from their 1987 Bar None Single. Other band members were: Ken Bussiere,(Bass)Dan Mckinney,(Keys)and Dave Ferrara (Drums). Here's a couple of articles for you reading pleasure.

This single is pretty much a mystery to me. All I found is some scattered comments on message boards that basically told me nothing. It seems as though they were from Carbondale Illinois, although this was recorded in Kentucky, and I believe this was their only single. The A side Pop Songs is so catchy, it instantly sticks in your head.

Scarlet Party formed in Essex, England, in the early 1980s as a three piece. The original lineup was: Graham Dye,(Vocals, and Guitar) Steven Dye, (Bass, and Vocals) and Sean Heaphy (Drums). Eventually a fourth member, Mark Gilmour, joined on lead Guitar. In all the band released two singles, this being the first. An Lp was recorded, but was never officially released. The Rok Record Label released as many as 10 split singles, they all looked the same, and featured a different band on each side, it's a classic series. I don't own all of them, but I read somewhere there were 10 of them. Here's my own compilation of one of the more underrated 80's Hardcore bands, Tulsa's N.O.T.A..When I began to put things together; the single just didn't satisfy my fix, so I decided to add their self titled LP, as well as the track from the MMR comp "Welcome To 1984", and a couple of tracks from the "Live At The Crystal Pistol Disc". I posted their first E.P. a couple of years back, you can find it, along with info, and a link for N.O.T.A. world headquarters HERE. This is a pretty big download, but if you don't have this stuff, it will be worth the wait. I'm a big fan of these guys, I never got to see them live; they must have been incredible.

This record spent quite a bit of time on my turntable, and in my truck, years ago. I'm pretty sure I lost some hearing crankin this one, it really rips. I always wanted to see these guys live, but unfortunately I never did. Around 1981 Pat Todd, (Vocals) Doug Phillips, (Guitars) and Keith Telligman (Bass) moved from Indiana to LA; and along with fellow transplant Allen Clark (Drums) formed The Lazy Cowgirls. Over 20 years, different lineups, and labels; The Cowgirls released countless records, this being their second LP. Some time after the release of their last LP "I'm Goin' Out And Get Hurt Tonight" in 2003 The Lazy Cowgirls called it a day. Singer Pat Todd currently has his own band called "Pat Todd & The Rankoutsiders, you can check them out HERE .

For some reason, completely out of the blue; Kill for you popped into my head today. I couldn't get it out. Funny thing is, I bought this record when it came out; and it's been sitting in a box for well over 10 years in my basement. Funny how our brains work sometimes, anyway when I got home from work; I thought maybe posting it would help get it out of my head, so hear it is. These guys look like they just came home from an all you can eat spaghetti dinner that went wrong. I don't own all of the Rip Off releases; but I bought a number of them. For the most part, the majority were low-fi reved up rock-n-roll; and this one's no different. The Infections were from San Fransisco. They put out a full length titled "Kill", as well as this single, and maybe a couple of comp tracks. They had a couple of different lineups; but for this single's purposes, the line up was: Greg Lowery, (Bass) Shane White, (Guitar) Wesley Gravolet, (Drums) and Jason Dancer, (Guitar). Greg Lowery runs, or ran Rip Off Records; is Rip Off still around? All these guys were in multiple bands; check out this Grunnen Rocks page, for some history.

The Next were a four piece from Austin Texas. They put out two singles; this one, and a second effort titled, "Kick Ass". I couldn't find much in the way of info, I did find this was posted a while back at a blog called The Punk Vault. They only posted one song, so it's worth a re post. I included a scan of the fold out poster too. band members on this record were: Ty Gavin, (vocals) Skip Seven, (Guitar) Lee Shupe, (bass) and Arthur Hays (drums). A few post's back, I posted a single from a Jersey band called The Shades. Here's another band called The Shades; however, This three piece leans more towards the Mod/Punk side of things, and were from St. Petersburg, Florida. Best I can tell; The Shades were formed by Dennis Dalcin around 1978, and were around till 81, or so. This was their only single; and it was self released. Band members were: Dennis Dalcin, (Vocals,Guitar) Ed Siersema, (Bass,Vocals) and Guy Silvestro (Drums,Vocals). Dennis Dalcin, went on to be in bands such as: The Perfect Strangers, The Petal Pushers, and more recently, The Lears. He has a Myspace you can check out HERE . I'm not sure if it's the same guy (no pun intended), but I found a Guy Silvesto playing drums for a classic rock type outfit out of Tampa, Here's their Myspace . I couldn't find anything on Ed Siersema.

False Alarm are from Los Angeles, California. They've been around in one form or another since 1982.The band consisted of various members, including Fat Mike, of NOFX, and Fat records fame. In All, they released at least 2 lp's, 2 singles. On this lp, the line up was: Dylan Maunder, (Lead Guitar, Lead Vocals) Art Chianello, (Drums) Paul Kostabi, (Rhythm Guitar) and Brent Alden, (Bass); as well as guest appearances by Cheetah Chrome (Dead Boys), Rick Wilder (Berlin Brats, And Mau Maus), and De De Troit (UXA).The album cover was done by Dee Dee Ramone, and Paul Kostabi. Sadly,Dylan Maunder didn’t live to see this lp's release, he died a drug related death in 2005. I pulled a few songs for you to check out, If you like what you hear; you can order a copy from Nicotine Records. The Headaches (Power For Passion Single)

The Headaches were a great Chicago Four piece, that formed in 1979. Band member were: Eddy Ulm, (Bass Vocals) Tim Edwards (Guitar, Vocals), Gary Panosian (Guitar) ,and Johnny Gomez (Drums). I always thought this record had a Generation X feel to it, so I wasn't surprised when I read they were one of The Headaches influences. This was their only single, 500 of these were pressed, three hundred came with silk screened picture sleeves, unfortunately mine wasn't one of them. Tony, from the Punk Business Manager blog was kind enough to send me front, and back scans of the original sleeve, (Thank You !!). So I reuped the download, to included the scans, as well I updated the post picture. Anyway, sometime around 1982, due to many of the usual reasons, the Headaches called it a day. They reformed in the 90's and released an LP titled, "Cavities From Candyland" which you can still pick up from The band for $10.00. For the hell of it; I took a look in my old Volumes book to see what it had to say about this record. It claimed this band was from Vancouver, and, appeared on The Vancouver Complication Comp.I guess you can't believe everything you read. I think the Shades were from NJ, but I'm not 100% sure, they played mostly around The Trenton, and Philadelphia area. This may have been their only record but once again, I'm not certain. If you know anything please feel free to fill in the blanks. I found this link that should clear things up a bit, CHECK IT OUT !

This ones a total mystery to me. While researching the band I found this was posted a few years back over at the excellent Short Sharp Kick In The Teeth Blog. Hopefully, someone will see this and give some information on this great record. The back of the sleeve claims these songs are taken from a forthcoming album Titled "Quick As A Flash" Does anyone have this?? Was it ever Released??

Hollywood Brats (Then He Kissed Me Single)

The Hollywood brats formed in London in 1971. Originally a three piece, they called themselves The Queen. Band members were: Andrew Matheson, (Vocals) Casino Steel, (keyboards) and drummer Lou Sparks. After a conflict of band name, with the Freddie Mercury led rock band, they decided to change their name to The Hollywood Brats.
In 1972, Eunan Brady, (Guitar) and Wayne Manor, (Bass) were added, and the lineup was complete. Championed by Keith Moon, the band landed a deal with NEMS Records and recorded an album, but the label pulled back, refusing to publish the material. Ultimately this setback along with various mounting frustrations, led to the bands end in 1974. Mercury Records released the LP in 1975 entitling it Grown Up Wrong and crediting the band as "Andrew Matheson & The Brats" to avoid contractual problems with NEMS, however, the album was released only in Scandinavia. A few years later, Cherry Red Records released,(this single) their cover of The Crystals "Then He Kissed Me" in 1979, as well as re-releasing the LP in 1980.Following the demise of the Brats,Matheson went on to record with Tools and Wreckless Eric's Last Orders. Steel spent time in London SS, and eventually ended up in The Boys..

The Negatives were from Sheffield England. They were around from the late 70's through the early 80's. I think this was their only single. They made it onto the comps: New Wave From The Heart, and Bouquet Of Steel. Band members were: Pete Eason, (Vocals) Fraser "Snapper" Charles, (Guitar, Piano) Brad Martini, (Bass, Vocals) and Steve Wilmot (Drums, Vocals).

The Hi-Fi's (I Don't Know Why You Love Me SIngle)

Here's one for you, it's one of my favorite Canadian Powerpop records. The Hi-fi's were from Toronto, they were formed around 1977 or 78, by Greg Keelor, and Jim Cuddy, who had met while in high school. Other band members were: Jim Sublett, ( Drums) and Malcolm Schell (Bass, and Vocals). Unfortunately, I couldn't find much in the way of info on those guys. I believe this was their only single. They were approached by Ready Records with a deal; but for what ever reason, it never materialised. Eventually The Hi-fi's disbanded, and Keelor, and Cuddy went on to form the groups: Fly to France, and the one their most known for, Blue Rodeo.

The Cheepskates Collection

I've been wanting to post something from The Cheepskates, for quite sometime, they're one of my favorite 80's Garage revival bands. Their brand of 60's inspired pop is truly haunting. It took me a while, because I couldn't decide what I wanted to post. Anyway, I decided to pull a few of my favorite songs from each of the 3 studio Lp's I own, as well as a live LP from 1988.I used their first single for the cover. In All, it has 17 tracks, it's kind of a big download, but if your not real familiar with these guys I'm sure you'll find it worth the wait. I think my favorite , of the three full length is "It Wings Above". I like them all, but over the years I've found myself listening to that one the most. I realised I'm missing an LP titled Remember, as well as a couple of later releases, oh well, it gives me something else to look for. I actually got to see The Cheepskates live in NYC once, The Mosquito's were on the bill as well, I came away thoroughly impressed, it was a great show. The Cheepskates were from NYC, They were around from the early 80's, through the early 90's ( although they've gotten back together for a few special occasions). They made more than half a dozen albums for American and German labels. After They called it quits, singer Shane Faubert released a few more solo records. I found THIS site, where you can pick up most of their releases on CD.
