Here's another great single from Manchester's The Freshies. I posted Their Yellow Spot single, a while back, you can check it out HERE . They formed some time in the mid 1970's, and released their first single on Chris Sievey's own Razz Records in 1978. After a number of singles on Razz Records they reached number 54 in the UK charts with Their biggest selling and best known song on MCA records, "I'm In Love With The Girl On The Manchester Virgin Megastore Checkout Desk", renamed as "I'm In Love With The Girl On A Certain Manchester Megastore Checkout Desk" By request of Virgin Records. Two more singles followed on MCA, including this one, and one on Stiff records before calling it a day. Oddly enough they never recorded an album.

Fantastic single Frank, as usual.
Take care
Thank you Mike !
I used to buy Freshies singles and tapes direct from Chris Sievey back in the early '80s. Then their RAZZ adverts had a limited edition Freshies video for sale so I sent for it. It never arrived. Many complaint letters followed but they never once responded. When I saw Frank Sidebottom (Chris Sievey's papier-mache-headed alter ego)on stage in the comedy tent at the Reading festival a few years later I went up looking to confront him but sadly I couldn't get past security. The Bastard!
I'm surprised he was big enough to have security around him.Did you ever find a copy of the video, or did that leave a bad taste in your mouth? By the way I plan on recording you record very soon. Sorry for the delay.
Frank
No Frank, never found the video, so I wonder if it was ever released? No excuse for keeping my money though! Maybe he did that a lot so needed security, or maybe it was just the stage security, I was probably drunk!
Thats funny, I just recorded your record. As soon as I put it on my computer, I'll send it to you.
Sad news that Chris Sievey died today.. RIP
Thanks for the comment, that's sad news. Yellow spot is still one of my favorite powerpop singles. Here's a link for anyone interested in reading about Chris,http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2010/jun/22/frank-sidebottom-chris-sievey-obituary RIP.
Hey Frank do you have any of the cassettes that the Freshies released? Or maybe one of the fans out there has the cassettes and is willing to share? Maybe?
I emailed a few people about the cassetes and came up empty. I think I have a best of cd if your intrested. Thanks for the comment.
Yeah those cassettes are tough to find. I do have a copy of the "Girls from banana island..." if you're interested. Not the best copy but it's something. It's a bit rough and the songs aren't as great as what's been released, in my opinion anyway. Maybe it's gotta grow on me.
If you would like, your welcome to email me the cassette and I'll post it up for anyone interested.
Thanks,
Frank
Yeah, I only have a downloaded copy of it. So no cover scan or extras. I know I know, pretty lame, but I just had to hear it.
