The Rattlecats - Run My Life Single

The Rattlecats were a Austin, Texas four piece; that formed in the late 70's. This was their only record, it was self released. 500 copies were pressed. A mistake was made on the label. Run My Life was printed as Run My Live. The V was crossed out by hand and changed to an F. A stamped sleeve, with the band name and paw prints also exists. By 1983, the band called it quits. Cheap Rewards put out a cool unreleased song on, "Radio Ready, Vol 1" If you want to read more on these guys go check his blog out.

G.Squad - In My Mind Single

a re-post by request, originally posted 2-27-2009, new rips and pics, enjoy!

Once again, a big thank to Paul Powell for the band info. G squad were a mostly Norfolk, based four piece; around from 1979 til 1982. This single and a few other songs were recorded over two sessions at Octopus Studios in Stowupland, Suffolk. Unfortunately, I've noticed a slight pressing issue with my copy. There's a bit of audible noise on side one but it's not terrible.

Riff Doctors (I Don't Wan't To Go Back Single)

(re-post, new rips)
Riff Doctors were a short lived four piece from possibly, the Hoboken NJ area. I found a track on one of the Teenline comps that suggests they were from Durham, NC,? Anyway, I'm pretty sure this was their only record; it was put out on Steve Fallon’s Coyote records label, who formerly owned Maxwell’s, a great club in Hoboken. After this, Donna Esposito, (formerly of The Cyclones) joined the band, and they changed their name to “Cowboy, and Spin Girl”. There's a cassette only release you can hear over at the great Wilfully Obscure Blog. As usual, information is limited; so if I have something wrong, or there’s something you would like to add, please feel free.

Bullet Proof - Tonight Single

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Here's one I hunted for quite a few years; it's a tough one to find for sure. Unfortunately, info on these guys is even harder to come by. The only thing I could find is they were from Ontario, Canada. Tonight is a revved up rock-n-roll tune. It's ok but the flip is why I searched for this so long. Broken Promises is super catchy, rock inspired pop, complete with piano. Great stuff, Enjoy!

The Press - Fodder For The Critics

I seen this one for sale a few times over the years but never heard it. I finally got my chance when the Short Sharp Kick In The Teeth Blog posted it about ten years ago. A few years later, I finally scored a nice copy for myself. Since no longer available to hear; I figure this is a good time to add it here. It's a great record, with a nice mix of pubrock, pop and a few punk smashers for good measure. Trapped In The Wreckage is my favorite of the bunch.
The Press were a Sydney, Australia four piece; that were around from 1977, through 1979. Besides this Lp, there's also a single; both are on Laser Records Label.

The Comets - Big Business Jokes Single

The Comets were a Ocala, Florida three piece. They met and formed in Nassau, Bahamas around 1980. This is the second of two singles. They also released a 10" titled "Pick of the Litter" all on Orange Records. I can't speak for the other records, as I've never heard them but as well documented; this single sounds very Jam like. For me, I love the Jam so as they say, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". I was always under the assumption, singer Mich Shields probably put on his British accent, which was done by a few US bands of the time. To my pleasant surprise while researching the band; I discovered Mich was actually from London, legitimizing them even more . I saw what appears to be a picture sleeve floating around the net for this but I've never seen one for sale, so it may not be real. At any rate, these guys kicked ass, the tunes are catchy and the drum and cymbal work on Big Business Jokes is just incredible. If any of you happen to have the other two records, I'd love to hear them..

The Jeff Hill Band (The Pathway Tapes)

   The Jeff Hill Band
were a UK three piece, that were around between 1977 and 1980. They released one rare single on Balloon Records in 1979, with a pressing of 500. Sing Sing Records was kind enough to reissue it in 2009.

This killer 4 song Ep. was recorded for Chiswick Records in 1977 but went unreleased till now. Different Class Records, (a Portuguese Label) has recently remastered and released it. If you're interested in picking one up and you totally should be, (it's a must have). 12 Inch Love Volume 1

Any of you that have been following me for a while might remember some of my home made comps from early on. It's been a really long time since I've attempted anything like that. About six years ago, I had an Idea for this concept. I made the cover for it, saved it and for whatever reason, it fell to the back of my mind till recently.
The only criteria is, it must be from a 12 inch and it must have something to do with love,( dating, relationships, breaking up, etc). I'm not locked in on any particular genres; although I'm guessing they'll be lots of Powerpop. I'm not focusing on rarity and songs may or may not have appeared here in the past. I'm Hoping to make this a fairly regular installment, with multiple volumes, 12 songs each.
Basically, I'll be pulling songs I like from 12 Inch slabs of vinyl. It should be fun, since I normally focus on 7 inches, Enjoy!

Volume 1

1. The Beekeepers - That Girl
2. Bitter Pleasures - For A Little While
3. Flight Of Mavis - On My Mind
4. Blue Shoes - I Don't Know Why

Two earlier tracks were released on the The Dead Good Records "East" Comp; both tracks are included. B-Movie released a number of singles, Ep's and a full length before disbanding in 1985. The band flirted closely with international mainstream success but ultimately, it eluded them. Approved Men (Quite Like You Ep)

Here's a sparkling example of everything right with British Powerpop, from the late 70's through the early 80's. Super catchy, well crafted songs; under produced, just enough to make them really pop. This charming record deserves to sit among any of the best Powerpop records from the era or any era for that matter.
The amazing My Life's A Jigsaw Blog, posted this gem back in 2010. I want to thank it's curator Bruce, for being kind enough to email me info on the band to help with my post! If your not aware of his blog, you really owe it to yourself to check it out!

Mammals (Look Around You Ep)

This ones been in my queue for a while now. Mammals are a Chicago three piece with three releases to their credit, ( two 7" singles and a fairly new 7" E.p). They describe themselves as being garagey power pop, delivered with heart and soul. I agree with that assessment; although I think they lean more towards power pop. One thing I love about these guy's is a real sense of sadness that shines through their music. I purchased all three records. They wrote me a hand note, thanking me.    The Lemonheads, (originally called The Welps) were a Boston three piece that formed in 1986. This, their first record was self recorded and released the same year. Although I do enjoy some of their later releases; this and Hate Your Friends are my favorites. It looks like there's some form of the band still active. As you might imagine, there's tons of info out there. I posted a few links below to get you started, if interested.

The Form ( Watch Out Ep)

This one was posted a while back on a couple of great blogs but I really wanted to add it to my collection, so here it goes.
The Form were a London five piece, that came together in the late 70's and lasted till 1981. This, (the bands only record )was recorded in 1979, the better part of a year before it was released. 547 copies were pressed; 47 without sleeves. My copy is autographed by the band. I was doing some reading on the Bored Teenagers Website . It appears that live, two ladies named Caz and Pet, calling themselves the Nymphets would join, creating a six vocalist assault.

Line Up

Gary Mole, aka Daktari Swets - Lead Vocals
Nick Calloway - Guitar
Pete Watt - Guitar, Vocals
Andy Hill - Bass
Graham Smith, aka Big G - Drums

The Headaches (Power For Passion Single)

a re-post, originally posted 2-26-2011, new rips and scans, enjoy!
The Headaches were a Chicago Four piece, that formed in 1979. This was their only single, 500 of these were pressed, three hundred came with silk screened picture sleeves. Sometime around 1982, due to many of the usual reasons, the Headaches called it a day. They reformed in the 90's and released an LP titled, "Cavities From Candyland".

The Stimulators (Loud Fast Rules!)

a re-post, originally posted 11-16-2008, new rips and scans, enjoy!
The Stimulators, founded by guitarist Denise Mercedes were a NYC four piece that were around from 1978 to 1982. During that span, they released one single, a live cassette and a promo 3 song ep, that I read was never commercially sold to the public. Honestly, I can't say if that's true. The song M.A.C.H.I.N.E. ended up on the New York Trash Comp reissue in 98.
Although having a small sample size from a release standpoint, The Stimulators are generally considered one of the last great NYC punk bands, before the era of Hardcore ushered in. Drummer Harley Flanagan, (Denise's Nephew) went on to form The Cro-mags; he was 11 while playing with The Stimulators. Patrick Mack died in 1983 of complications associated with AIDS.

The Freshies (Yellow Spot Single)

a re-post, originally posted 9-6-2008, new rips and scans, enjoy!
Time for a few re-post's. As I said when I first posted this record almost 12 years ago...(can't believe it's been that long) Yellow spot used to drive us crazy. My uncle had it on an old mixed tape from a friend that he lost contact with. The song remained a mystery for almost 20 years before I finally solved it, taking a chance on an ebay listing. I can't tell you how many people I played it for, who I considered knowledgeable and continually came up empty. Much of this time was before any of us had the internet. I used to think it was probably something pretty rare; turned out, it wasn't. Still a great record though, lol..
The Freshies were a four piece from Manchester, England that formed in the mid 1970's and continued till 1982. Founded and led by Chris Sievey, the band went through numerous line-up's. Although having a considerable amount of releases and material, I don't believe The Freshies released a full length. This and the majority of the bands releases were on Chris Sievey's own Razz Records label.
After The Freshies split, Sievey went on to a solo career alongside his comedic alter ego, Frank Sidebottom. Sadly, at the age of 54, he passed away of Cancer in 2010.

Line Up

Chris Sievey - Lead Vocals, Guitar
Rick Maunder - Bass
Neil Tomkinson - Drums
Barry Spencer - Lead Guitar and Vocals

a repost by request, originally posted 3-13-2009, new rip enjoy!
Liverpool's The Accelerators Formed in 1977, playing over 400 gigs in their five-year existence . Other than this record they had a great track on the Liverpool comp Street to Street called Radio Blues. They also released a cassette through mail order in 1979 called, Have you been accelerated? It would seem that in 1981 the Accelerators became no more. Here's a Link and as requested by Graeme, a Live video for Popguns and Green Lantern.

Hysteric Narcotics (Justice Single Plus Bonus Tracks)

a repost by request, originally posted 6-16-11, new rips and scans, enjoy!
Hysteric Narcotics were a Detroit area band that formed in 1983, and lasted till 1989. During that time span, they released four singles, (this being the second) an Lp titled "Batteries Not Included" which I included a couple of my favorite tunes from, (both are covers) and four comp. appearances. Since the break up, they've kept the band alive through a number of reunion shows, and in 2010 released a 25-song retrospective CD called, “From the Desolation Where the Greasewood Grows,” on the Gangplank Records Label .

Drunk Mums - Adderall

When I first started this blog, my intention was to mimic a radio show I hosted over a 10 year period. My format was fairly open; I tried to play a mix of everything I'm into: New, Old, Punk, Powerpop, Garage, 60's and even some metal. Over the years, I got away from that idea and started focusing on mostly older Punk And Powerpop records. I tried starting a blog for newer records but to be honest, it was poorly executed and I was having a hard time keeping up with this blog, let alone a second one. Anyway, I'm going to start posting bandcamp content, mixed in with my traditional post's. It gives me an opportunity to promote some great new bands that I'm into. Please support the groups and buy from them!
The Drunk Mums are a great four piece from Melbourne, Australia. With a number of releases to their credit; they keep getting better and better. My favorites are their Denim Ep and this new single.

The Shakers ( Till I'm Gone Single)

The Shakers were a Canadian four piece, that were around from 1979 till 1983. During that span, they released two full lenths, a couple of singles, (This being the first) and a couple of Ep's. I really like their first Lp, "In Time". After The Shakers broke up, Dave Des Roches went on to become the lead singer of Teenage Head. He had previously been a backing musician on their Frantic City Lp.  Gord lewis from Teenage Head played some guitar on this as well.
