The Offbeats ("In Rhythm Off Beat")

The Offbeats were a four piece from Medway, England that were around from 1983 to 87. " In Rhythm Off Beat", was the bands only full length and appears to have been self released. It's a full on 60's British Invasion assault that leans heavily towards The Beatles, Kinks, Etc; but at times has a darker Zombies edge as well. I read there was a second LP that was never finished or released, what a shame. My copy is a promotional copy with a bio sheet and a concert announcement sheet I included with the download. Glenn Prangnell, (Rhythm Guitar and Vocals) went on to form The Kravin' A's and now resides with an outfit called Groovy Uncle. Here's a Web Site, if you want to check them out.

Blue Peter (Best Of First Three LP's)

 Blue Peter were a four piece from Toronto Canada, that were around from 1978 to 1985. In All they released four full length's, two singles, and an E.P. titled Version. Included here, are my favorite tracks from their first three LP's. It's cool to hear the transition from a Pop/Punk outfit, to more of a main stream sounding, New Wave band, while maintaining a knack for writing excellent songs. That's something only a handful of bands were able to accomplish. Revolver (Some Other Guy Single)

   If you've followed this blog for any period of time, you may have figured out by now that I have a soft spot for Beatlesque, or 60's British Invasion sounding Bands. Here's another record in that vein to add to the list. I couldn't find any info at all on these guys, which is funny since there's a quote on the back of the sleeve calling Revolver, "The Biggest, Hottest, Property in the history of American show business". I found one band with the same name, from the same period out of Cleveland and a more recent one out of California; neither of which appear associated with these guys. At any rate what we have here is a solid two sider, consisting of two covers that were part of The Beatles  live repertoire around 1962-63. Some other Guy was originally written and released as a single by Richie Barrett in 1962 and I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you was written in 1953 by Joe Thomas and Howard Biggs. It looks like these guys may have been from Sierra Madre, CA and drummer Rolo Sandoval has been associated with other Beatles tribute acts, but that's all I have.

!! My New Blog !!

  I've been kicking the Idea around of starting a new blog for years. You may be asking yourself why I would start a new blog when I can't even update the one I have on a regular basis. That's a very valid question....... I guess the only answer I can give you is I'm not sure hahaha. I guess the main reason is to post newer music and to give newer bands exposure. I receive requests all the time from current bands asking if I can review their music and I usually shy away feeling like it doesn't fit in with this blog; the new blog will allow me to do it as well as post records from newer bands I'm into. When I started Shotgun Solution, I never meant for it to have a specific format but over the years it just went in that direction. Neoteric Melodies format will be Post 1990 Punk, Powerpop, Pop, Garage, Hardcore etc. Shotgun Solution's format will be Pre 1990 Punk, Powerpop, Pop, Garage, Hardcore etc. Eventually, I plan on transferring all of the post 1990's post's over to the new site. For now on, any request's having to do with any music post 1990; please direct them to the new blog. Please check it out and let me know what you think, I think it turned out pretty cool.

Vox Pop (Just Like Your Mom Single)

  Vox Pop was a Los Angeles band formed by Jeff Dahl around 1979. Other Members of the band were Don Bolles (drums) from The Germs and 45 Grave, Mary Simms (aka Dinah Cancer),from 45 Grave, Michael Ochoa(from Nervous Gender), Paul Cutler (originally from the Consumers) also from 45 Grave (and eventually the Dream Syndicate), and Del Hopkins,who drums with the Jeff Dahl Group now, other than that, I couldn't find much info on him. Darby Crash called Vox Pop the worst band he had ever seen(pretty funny huh!). After Vox Pop folded around 81 or so, Jeff Dahl went on to do a short stint with the Angry Samoans as well as forming the L.A. metal outfit Powertrip, He's been involved with many other projects to present day.

Dred Scott (Believe You All E.P.)

 Dred Scott was a Los Angeles four piece formed in 1979 by Journalist Greg Burk. There's not much info out there on these guys. In all I believe they had two singles, and possibly an LP(but I'm not sure),before they disbanded around 1985. Every time I look at this cover it reminds me of Shemp, from the Three Stooges.

The Krayolas (All I Do Is Try Single)

The Krayolas, were a four piece from San Antonio, TX that formed around 1975. They released a number of singles, (this being the first) and two full lengths before splitting in 1988. In 2007 a compilation of singles and rare tracks called "Best Riffs Only" was released and the Krayolas reformed in support of it. Since then they've released four more full lengths and a couple EP's. Go check them out at The Krayolas.Com Website. There you'll find where to purchase their music, Bio's, a Discography, and lots of other band related info. Both of these great tunes are included on the "Best Riffs Only" disc, however I find these slower, more primitive versions more appealing. I apologize for the sound, my copy has certainly seen better days; hopefully one of these days I'll upgrade to a cleaner copy.

Far as I can tell, The Trouble Boys were a three piece from Toledo, OH and this was their only record. There's very little about these guys online and the sleeve yields nothing. TV21 ( Playing With Fire and On The Run Singles)

 Per request, new rips and scans; these two singles were originally posted separately in 9/16/08 and 6/17/09.
    For your listening pleasure, here's my favorite TV21 records, with "On The Run" being my favorite of the two. The B side, "End Of A Dream" is still to this day one of my favorite songs. I added a bonus song, "Ambition" from the free single that came with "Snakes and Ladders" to the "Playing With Fire Single" download. Ambition was also part of a three song Ep released on Powbeat Records in 1980.
   TV21 were a four piece from Edinburgh Scotland, that formed in 1979. The bands name comes from a weekly British children's comic from the latter part of the 60's. They recorded a number of singles and an LP before parting ways in 1982. In 2005 they reformed and released a second LP titled Forever 22; if interested you can pick it up Here. A couple of years back, Cherry Red released an almost complete discography you can pick up Here. TV21 has a Myspace for you to check out as well, Enjoy!

 The Kick were a London area four piece that were around from 1982 till 1987. In all they released three singles and had a couple of compilation tracks. When I first posted this record I knew very little about the band. But thanks to people who were nice enough to comment such as Mr. Suave and Bruce from the awesome My Life's A Jigsaw Blog, I was able to pick up a few things. Since Bruce never re upped the file, I included their first single as a bonus. It was originally posted along with the third single Here and Here. I can't remember if it originally had it or not, but my can't let go single has a slight warp in the beginning of the record that causes some noise; I guess it's time to upgrade...

The Daughters (The Daughters EP)

The Daughters were a short lived three piece from Boston, who formed in the early eighties. They sporadically, opened for, and backed former New York Dolls guitarist Johnny Thunders. Joe Mazzari, has a website that’s defiantly worth checking out. I believe this single was their only release. There were a series of recording sessions for an LP, but it remains unreleased.

The Cheesedogs (Rita Jenrette EP)

The Cheesedogs were a four piece from Clark, New Jersey. Unfortunately that's all I could find on them. Musically, this record has a cool DIY, Synth, Powerpop vibe to it. The title track is about Rita Jenrette, former wife of U.S. Representative John Jenrette who was convicted for taking a bribe during the Abscam investigation in 1980. She is most famous for an interview she gave Playboy Magazine that appeared in the April 1981 issue, accompanied by a nude pictorial. She claimed that she and her husband had made love on the steps of the U.S. Capitol during a break in an all-night House session. I also found this Cheesedogs Facebook Page which doesn't tell much.

Too Much Saturn (Moving Forward Sideways)

Sorry for the extended absence again. Between work and a couple of family issues I've been having lately, I'm left with little time for much else.

   A while back I was contacted by a nice fellow that told me he was a fan of the blog and asked me to re-post a record for him. Turns out that fellow is Dave Franco, drummer for Too Much Saturn. Dave contacted me again recently to inform me the band's released an LP and asked if I would be interested in reviewing it. At first I was reluctant since I try to focus mainly on older records. But being that Dave is a nice guy and a fan of the blog, here it goes...
   Too Much Saturn are a Chicago Five Piece, that's been around for about five years. The band formed from the ashes of several Chicago based bands such as, Great Big Noise, Double Play, Scheme, The Quick, Trendoids, Oh Boy! and The Vandalays. Their name comes from the Francis Dunnery tune Too Much Saturn. Russ Spice, (Guitar) was the technical engineer on The Smashing Pumpkins Billboard Number One LP "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness."
   Musically, "Moving Forward Sideways" is modern sounding Powerpop with a slight Indie edge. As I listened to the album I found them somewhat reminiscent of a New Jersey 90's band, Oral Groove. Overall it's a nice effort; you can tell these guys really enjoy great Pop music and it shows through on the disc. If I had to pick, I think my favorite track here is "Funny". I included it below for you to download.

I Picked this up a year or so ago fairly cheap. I knew who Gary Herrewig is and the seller had a sound file that caught my ear so I took a chance. I was happy with my purchase to say the least. Hurt You Too is my favorite song here, but they're all catchy. Goin' Back is a Gerry Goffin and Carole King tune made Popular by Dusty Springfield and the Byrds .
  This is a solo effort from Gary Herrewig who was and I believe still is.. the Guitarist for the long time Powerpop outfit; Fairfax Virginia's Artful Dodger. The Question were an La three piece that were around for most of the Eighties, maybe longer? Other than these two Ep's, they had a couple of tracks on the Warfrat Tales Comp in 1983. I found This Facebook Page that suggests they are or were working on a retrospective but I found no evidence of it ever being released. The Watermelon Men were a Swedish five piece that were around from the mid Eighties up till 1994. During that span they released at least, three Lp's, an Ep, and a couple of singles. I read Here, guitarist Imre von Polgar died in the tsunami disaster in Khao Lak in 2004. Shortly after, the band reformed for a one time show in his memory.

   The Jets were a Pekin Illinois, four piece that formed in 1972 and were around till 1980. Other than this single, they had another one titled Be For Me bw I Play For You in 1974 with a different line up. This Twin Tone Page says 490 copies of this record were sold, but I'm not sure if that's what was actually pressed. Both songs also appeared on Big Hits Of Mid-America Volume Three; I don't recall ever seeing any other releases.

Johnny Darke (I'm Not A Believer Single)

Here's another record I couldn't find anything about. I found mention of a Gangster named John Darke. I'm guessing that's possibly where this guy took his name from. Ok here's a major stretch... I'm sure I'm completely wrong on this, but I figured since I couldn't find anything I would have a little fun and let you all beat me up a bit. The credit on both songs go to a J Mellor.....Wasn't Joe Strummer's real name John Mellor??? I listened to this 10 times and honestly, I don't think it sounds like him but if you look at the guy's face.....it's possible. I included a picture of Joe, so you can judge for yourself....What do you think?? Oh yeah sorry about the sound, my copy has some surface noise in the beginning of each song; funny thing is the record looks almost perfect.

Epicycle (School Girls / Residential Area Single)

   Epicycle were a Chicago area four piece that originally formed in 1979 and were only around a year or so. During that span they released two Ep's, this single, and a full length all on the Cirkle Records Label which was founded by front man Andrew (Ellis Clark). The band reformed around 1998 with new members; they released three full lengths before calling it quits again in 2008. Even though the sleeve suggests Residential Area is the A side of the single, the vinyl and label have it as the B side, so that's what I went with.
   On a side note I have a new tube preamp and I've been experimenting with Audacity; trying out some new editing techniques. I recently realized my recordings have allot of clipping. Even though the overall volume of this recording may be slightly lower than my usual recordings; I think it's better quality. If it's not too much trouble; I would like to know what you think?

Transmission (Talking To You Single)

Transmission was a four piece from Stockholm Sweden. They started playing together around 1977 calling themselves Harlequin. At some point, I'm guessing 1978 they changed their name to Transmission and released this, I believe their only single. Not too long after this records release they called it quits. Singer Sebastian Håkansson joined Alien Beat. I couldn't find much info on Transmission so I had to guess a bit; if I got any of this wrong, please feel free to correct me or validate me. Here's a few pages I did find; they didn't tell a whole lot though.

 Social Disease were a Bristol, England five piece that formed around 1980. They had a demo tape, this Ep and another single that I'm not sure was ever officially released. One interesting thing of note was they had two singers; another is the tracks on this Ep are mixed up and they don't list track Three on the record. I've seen it listed a couple of places as "Tomorrows Burning", so I went with that. I always thought this drummer on this record kicks some major ass; anyway, when I was a kid the track Today found its way onto quite a few of my mixed tapes, hopefully it will find it's way onto a few of yours. ENJOY!!!

Adolescents (Adolescents Lp Original Version)

   The first press of this Lp has different production than later pressings. For some reason, an echo was added to the vocals on later pressings that I never cared for. Kraut did the same thing when they reissued their first record. My uncle bought this recently on cd and the vocals still have an echo. As far as I know this has never been reissued in it's original form.
 The Adolescents were from Fullerton, California. Steve Soto formed the band after leaving Agent Orange in December 1979. The original line-up was led by frontman Tony Cadena, with Steve Soto on bass, Frank Agnew on guitar, John O'Donovan on guitar and Peter Pan on drums. Both O'Donovan and Pan left in June. Later that year, the group released the classic punk single "Amoeba" on Posh Boy Records. The track also appeared on the Rodney on the ROQ compilation, assembled by L.A. DJ Rodney Bingenheimer.
The Band signed with Frontier Records in January 1981 and recorded this Lp, the following month. It quickly became one of the best-selling California punk albums. Despite this success, Rikk Agnew left the band. He was replaced by Pat Smear, formerly of The Germs. This lineup lasted until the end of June, when Smear left.
The Adolescents broke up in August 1981. Cadena formed The Abandoned, Steve Soto and Frank Agnew joined Legal Weapon, Royer formed D.I., and Rikk Agnew joined Christian Death.
Rikk Agnew made his solo album in 1983 then joined D.I. with Alfie Agnew, Frank and Rikk's younger brother.
In 1986 The Adolescents reformed with their original line-up and started to work on a new album. Before recording Casey Royer and Frank Agnew left the band. Royer had wanted to keep D.I. going (until 1995), and Agnew lost interest. Sandy Hansen took Royer's place on drums and Alfie took Frank's place on guitar. They recorded Brats in Battalions in the late summer. The record came out in August 1987 due to the band deciding to produce and release the album themselves with little cash or backing.
At the end of 1986 Alfie went to college and his place was taken by Dan Colburn; by the end of the year Cadena and Colburn left.
In 1988 Rikk Agnew and Steve Soto decided to replace Colburn with Paul Casey and start singing themselves. Casey left after four months and Frank Agnew replaced him on guitar, after touring the band recorded their then-final album Balboa Fun Zone.
The Adolescents broke up in April 1989. Steve Soto, Sandy Hansen and Frank Agnew started Joyride and Rikk Agnew did a couple of solo albums.
The band regrouped to tour for the 20th anniversary of their self-titled album in 2001 and have continued to perform. Live guitarists can vary depending on who is available—their summer 2006 tour had Joe Harrison and Matt Beld in place of the Agnews. They released their first reunion album, O.C. Confidential, in 2005 on Finger Records, a label owned and run by Mel Schantz out of Orange County, California.
In March 2007, bassist Steve Soto confirmed that The Adolescents had begun writing material for their follow-up to O.C. Confidential, which was possibly due for release "by the end of" that year. In late 2007, The Adolescents announced in a MySpace blog entry that they were working on the new album originally expected to released in the spring of 2008. In March 2009, the band announced that they were in the process of writing lyrics to the album and were to begin recording shortly. The Rousers (Lp's And Singles)

I originally started this blog to make music from great bands like The Rousers more available for people to hear. Recently, someone requested re posts of both Lp's; so I decided to post them together and add the singles too. Unfortunately I forgot that my copy of Susans day was warped; I tried to fix it and ruined it like an idiot. Anyway, I recently bought a new copy; when I get it, I'll add it to the post. Additionally, one or two of the other singles had some crackle to them; it's been a long time since I listened to them(I guess It's time to upgrade "Enjoy"!).

The Rousers were a five piece from Broek op Langedijk, Netherlands that started around 1977 and lasted till 1981. During that span they released two full lengths and a handful of singles. Near the end of 1980, vocalist Bonne Zigtema left the band trimming the line up to four. Vocal duties were taken over by Cock de Jong and Wieb Zigtema on the Touched Lp. After the break up the band split into The Thought and The Shavers.

Justin Trouble (Ponytail Single)

(Per Request, Originaly Posted 9/29/12, New Rips)              Justin Trouble was a NYC four piece that were around in the early Eighties. They released this their first single, and a self titled full length both on Casino Records before parting ways. The flip of this single, "No Love" was produced, and co- written by Johnny Thunders. Justin Trouble changed his name to Justin love and followed up with a number of releases. The Henchmen (Death Machine Single)

   The Henchmen were a Auckland, New Zealand four piece, that formed from the ashes of an earlier outfit called, The Dum Dum Boys. I Believe this was their third single; I'm not exactly sure when it was released, the article linked below says 1985, but I think it was recorded earlier. After numerous line up changes; they eventually moved to Sydney, Australia and changed their name again to Reptiles At Dawn. Musical Chairs (Because It's You Single)

In the near future I'm going to eliminate all of my files from Mediafire; I think I finally found the answer to my fileshare problems with SugarSync, so far I've been very happy. About a year ago I posted The Musical Chairs First Single. As I often do I asked if anyone had any info and as is usually the case I came up empty. Anyway, here's what I think is the bands second single; funny thing is it looks exactly like the first one. The sleeves are identical; however the insert is different, they're on different labels and this single is from a year later. I believe The Musical Chairs were a three Piece from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I found a full Length titled “Fall On Deaf Ears”, that I’ve never heard and this single mentions a second Lp titled "Kilowatt Romance" that I've never heard either, would like to though.....anyone. Here's a  Myspace, and I found this Reverbnation page belonging to a Dave Matthies, who resides in Houston, Tx. In his bio he mentions a band called D.C.Matthies & amp; Co., also containing Don Stanley; so I’m assuming it’s the same guy; but he doesn’t mention The Musical Chairs.

Slyk (Even The Girls Don't Know Single)

  Here's another band I couldn't find much info on. Slyk looks to have been from Rhode Island. I think this was self released and probably their only record; I've never seen a copy with a picture sleeve. The only name on the record is Robert Lavalley, so I'm not sure if Slyk were a real band or if it was Robert backed by some friends or studio musicians. This was posted a few years back over at the Sing Sing Blog, but the file doesn't play anymore and they didn't post the B side of the record. Hooks (Lipstick On Your Collar/Young And Boring Single)

Hooks were a NYC five piece, that were around from 1978, to 1983. The bands origins began in Hollywood Ca in 1978. Singer Sharon 7 teamed up with Guitarist Jerome Youngman and Drummer Quito Equador to record a demo of the Exciters 60's hit "Tell Him". Afterwards the three moved to New York City where Keyboardist J. Elliot and (although he's not listed on this single) bass guitarist Lew Mazzeo completed the line up. Hooks played clubs such as CBGB's, Max's Kansas City and The Ritz. They Appeared live with bands like: Duran Duran, The Ramones, Iggy Pop, The Heartbreakers, The Speedies and The Beat. Other than this single, Hooks recorded an Lp titled "No Deposit, No Return" that I've never heard.

The Buzzards (Three On One Ep)

The Clerks (Dancing With My Girl Ep)

Here's a charming Ep from a somewhat mysterious Birmingham four piece, The Clerks. From what I gather the band formed in the late 70's; released two classic tracks, ("When The Lights Go Out" and "No Good For Me") on the legendary Rok Records comp "Odd Bods Mods & Sods" the latter was also released as a split single with Hazard both around 1979. This Ep however doesn't appear to have been released until 1984. Although there's no release date on the record; everything I've been able to find points in that direction anyway. I'm not sure why there was such a long lay off between releases or what happened to The Clerks afterwards but one things for sure, these guys had a knack with a hook.

The Blazers (Top Of My World Single)

The Blazers were a four piece from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I guess, I would call this a promotional single; it pairs the two best tunes from their Lp titled, "How To Rock". I don't think this came with a picture sleeve. Band member Rick Miller, (Guitar) changed his name to Parthenon Huxley and went on to have a fairly successful solo career. The rest of the band consisted of: Sherman Tate (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Ronnie Taylor (drums) and Lee Gildersleeve (bass).

The Crackers (What Did I Do? Single)

The Crackers were a five piece from Albuquerque New Mexico that formed in the early eighties. Other than this, they had an earlier single titled "Be Smart b/w I'm Tired Of You, an Lp titled "Guaranteed" which was a Billboard pick hit,and an Ep titled "Contraband". I found this video they made for What Did I Do you can check out and that's about all I could find.

Squad (Millionaire Single + Bonus)

Squad were a four piece from Coventry England that formed around the end of 1977. The original line up had Terry Hall on vocals who later went on to the Specials. Terry was replaced by Gus Chambers, as well as many other line up changes. I read that six months after this record was released; none of the original band remained. In all before calling it quits Squad released two singles; Red Alert / £8 A Week, which you can listen to Here and Here, this single, and a cut on the Sent From The Coventry Comp which I included with the download. After Squad Gus Chambers went on to bands such as: 21 Guns, Sons of Damnation and Grip Inc, formed by Dave Lombardo of Slayer fame, and Squad 21 who released an Lp titled "Skullduggery", that had reworks of 21 Guns, The Flasher and Millionaire. Sadly in 2008, Gus Chambers died from an accidental mixture of his medication and alcohol. If you want to read more about the band, you can check Here, Here, and Here.

Boys Life were a Boston four piece that were around in the early Eighties. I read the average age of the band was 16 when they started.
