As the Monks they existed from around 1979 till 1982. During that time, they released at least four singles, and two LP's. Nice legs reached #19, on the UK Singles Charts. Which country pressing is this? It's a nicer sleeve than the UK release + it was "....the face" in the UK not "....Her face
That's the Swedish picture sleeve (Carrere 7C-006-62866). It's 'Her Face' on the UK labels and also on the label/sleeve of the 'Bad Habits' LP (though mine is the Canadian issue on Harvest, but I'm sure the UK EMI LP is the same, can anyone confirm?). I've always considered that 'Her Face' is the correct title and that the UK sleeve was botched, but then the lyrics contain both. Who knows? One of a few questions I'd like to ask these guys (that and what links The Wild Bunch) but emails bounce or you get a publicist or something who promises to pass on your message but then hear nothing back.

Every kid in Canada owned that first Monks album, they were huge here.

Frank, I think there's a German pic sleeve for 'Nice Legs' too but probably the same or close to the UK one.

The Monks started out in English folk band the Strawbs, along with Rick Wakeman in the late 60s. After a couple of hits "Lay Down", and "Part of the Union", two members, Richard Hudson and John Ford, left and formed the duo Hudson-Ford, which had two further hits, "Pick Up The Pieces" and "Burn Baby Burn".
Hudson and Ford kept their identity as the Monks secret until the success of "Nice Legs" meant they couldn't hide any longer. It was widely believed, and I seem to remember they confirmed at the time, that the Monks was in effect a joke,an attempt at bandwagon-jumping to prove how easy it was to do "new wave."
Their success rather took them by surprise, especially in Canada, and they started to take the project seriously, but weren't able to carry it off, which is why they faded so badly after the initial novelty wore off.
Ford now lives in the States, and Hudson is back touring with the Strawbs.

yep. it's the only one he has. he knows nothing about punk. doesn't know any of the stuff i show him, nor does he like it, haha. in fact he hates punk. but he likes that Monks lp for some reason.
