The Fuses (Eastern Cities)

I've been shying away from posting anything recent lately, I don't want any complaints. But here's a early Christmas present for Jistonboy, who requested this LP the other day. This is the third, and I believe final full length from Baltimore Maryland's, The Fuses. I posted their first single a while back, You can check it out HERE. This record is darker than that one for sure. Sex Crimes is my fave here but there's a handful of others worth your time, you can buy one HERE. I believe The Fuses started around 1996, or 97, and ended sometime after this Lp. In all they released three albums as well as a number of singles, and a EP or two. Unfortunately, they were a criminally overlooked band.

The Huns (Fun With The Huns EP)

There were a number of bands that called themselves The Huns. Actually, this was the final sessions from the long standing Chicago outfit The Boyz, who's roots were in the 60's. Musically, this record has a strong Beatles influence, with the standout track (at least in my opinion) being Without You. I couldn't find much information on The Huns, or The Boyz, I did however find THIS PAGE, you can check out. I don't think this had a picture sleeve.

The Freshmen (You've Never Heard Anything Like It Single)

The Freshmen were a very successful Show Band, that formed in Northern Ireland in 1962.Early on they performed mostly covers, but eventually started to write their own material, and ended up releasing at least 20 or so singles, (of which nine were top 20 hits in Ireland), and three LP's, between 1964 and 1979. They also supported The Beach Boys on their 1967 Irish tour. I think this was their last real release before calling it quits around 1980. I guess you could call this somewhat of a Punk parody,but I think it's a fun record, and enjoy it just the same. It was named 'single of the week' by the NME, and reached number 17 in the Irish charts. If you would like to know more about the Freshmen, check out The Billy Brown Room.

The Unwanted (Secret Police Single)

The Unwanted formed in London in 1977. This was their second of two singles released on Raw Records. I'm pretty sure my copy of the first single is a 12".A third single was slated titled Memory Man/Guns Of Love, but I'm not sure if it was ever released?? Lineup changes, ect. ect. lead to the Unwanted's end late in 1978. HERE'S a cool page from Punk77 with quite a bit of info on the band.

Agent Orange (Bloodstains E.P.)

This is the third appearance here for Agent Orange, you might say that I like them. you can check out my previous post's HERE, and HERE. I'm not going into much detail, so if your interested in learning more about the band, they're pretty good places to start. Agent Orange formed in Orange County California in 1979. Shortly after which they self released this classic. This record is so good it had a series named after it. I guess it fetches a pretty good penny these days.

The Rivals (Here Comes The Night Single)

Chances are, if your looking at this site your probably familiar with this record. However, It's one of my favorites, therefore I wanted to included it here. The Rivals were a three piece outfit from Ramsgate, Kent, England. Formed by childhood friends; Mark Edwards,(Guitar) and Paul Leinster,(Bass) they were around from 1976 till 1981. There were a few lineup changes as far as drums were concerned through out the bands existence, however for this records purposes, I believe Paul Daley was beating the skins. This is the second of two great singles released. There's also an album called If Only that was put out on Detour Records Bin Liner Label in 2007. You can pick one up HERE ! , as well as info on the band. I also came by this Wikipedia page. (UPDATE) I recorded here comes the night over again, I wasn't happy with it.

The Locals (You Never Have Fun Single)

Exceptional Powerpop record from NYC'S, The Locals. They were around from 1979 through the early 80's, and this was their only single. It was originally posted a while back by the great Sing Sing Records Blog . They reissued it as well on their record label, I highly recommend you pick one up HERE! I've purchased many of their releases, and compared them to my original copies. I can't hardly tell the difference, they do a great job. I thought this would be a good time to post this single because The Locals have reunited and recently played at Kenny's Castaways Club, as part of the International PopOverthrow Festival. If you happened to get out to the show I'd like to know how it went???

The Rivvits (Saturday Night At The Dance Single)

The Rivvits were a West London-based four piece outfit that formed in 1977, and lasted till 79.. This was the first of two singles they released on The Alien Record Company Label. My copy came with the Free Flexi Disc, and I included it in the download. It's a great record, give it a listen. The Questions (Can't Get Over You Single)

The Questions were from Edinburgh Scotland. The band formed in the summer of 1977, and after a number of singles, (this being the second) and one LP titled Belief, called it a day in 1984. The Decoys (Not The Tremblin' Kind Single)

Here's the only single from NYC's, The Decoys. It was released on their own Trounce Records Label. The title track is a great 60's inspired Powerpop track, and definitely the better of the two songs. (at least for my taste anyway) If your interested in learning more about the group, here's a couple of places to start. George usher.com , and the Ed Russell Page . I just purchased a mixer with a direct usb line to my computer. I'm curious to know what you think of the sound of these recordings ? I think they come through fairly strong and clear.

Protex (I can only dream single)

Protex were an Irish four piece from Belfast That formed around 1978. The band consisted of; David McMaster, (vocals and Guitar) Aidan Murtagh, (vocals and guitar) Paul Maxwell, (bass) and Owen Mcfadden on drums. Before the bands end in 1981 they released 1 single on The Good Vibrations label, and 3 for Polydor.(this being the second)
They also had a few tracks on comps such as Made in Britain, and 20 of another kind. An lp's worth of material titled Strange Obsessions was recorded, but as far as I know was never officially released. Sing Sing records recently released it, you can find it HERE!

Cyanide (Your Old Man Single)

I recorded this straight through my computer, my speakers are small so it's hard to tell how it sounds. Please let me know if it sounds bad, I'll switch back to my cd recorder.
Cyanide were from York, they formed sometime in the early 70's, and lasted till around 1979. In all they release three great singles,(this one being the last) and one LP(all worth owning). I think Fireball is the A side, but really there both a sides, so I'm following the sleeve. After the band ended, members went on to form groups such as; The Pullovers, DV & The Clients, and Maineeaxe. I was surprised that there wasn't more info on these guys.

The Explosives (Restless Native LP)

Sorry I haven't posted much lately. I literally have stacks of singles, and Lp's waiting to be posted, but For some reason I just haven't been that into it. Anyway, enough of my whining. Here's a great Powerpop LP to cheer me up from Austin, Texas's The Explosives. I only recorded five songs. Never be good for you, and I thought you were a man, are my faves here. The Explosives were around from the late 70's, till shortly after this was released. They also had a few singles, and a couple of tracks on the Live at Raul's album.I believe the bands active again in some form. There's more in depth information You can find on their Myspace. The Young Fresh Fellows (The Fabulous Sounds Of The Pacific Northwest LP)

The Young Fresh Fellows formed around 1981 in Seattle Washington. Their Myspace claims this record was first released as a cassette in 1981, with a limited edition of 25 copies??? I'm not sure if that's true or not. If so, it took them three years to release it on vinyl. These guys have a good sense of humor, play great 60's inspired Pop, and have many releases to their credit. The Left (Hell It's The World + Bonus)

This record has been a long time favorite of mine, and in my opinion, is criminally underrated. I included a bonus track from the Bona Fide records comp titled "The Train To Disaster!", which was The bands Vinyl debut. The Left formed in Hagerstown, Maryland, around 1983, and released this record in 1984. They had Another LP titled," Last Train to Hagerstown" but broke up before the LP was released. The Reasons Why (In The End Single)

While researching the Clones, I came across, and fell for this record. So I picked it up, and decided to share it with you. All three tracks are great, Undecided almost has a TV 21 feel to it. Most of the info here is taken from The Reasons Why MYSPACE .The Reasons Why formed from the ashes of The Clones in the early 1980s. They went on to record several singles only one of which, (this one) was released on Phantom Records in 1987, it reached number 3 in the independent charts at the time. The band went through several line-up changes before finally splitting up permanently in November of 1987

Last Rites For Genocide And MIA

I've been posting quite a bit of Powerpop lately, so I thought this would be a good record to break things up a bit. This totally sizzles from my turntable. Like most people I'm sure, the MIA side of this record is definitely my favorite. While researching, I was a little disappointed there wasn't more info on this split. I wonder how it was decided to pair these bands? Their from opposite sides of the country, and the material wasn't even recorded in the same year. Unfortunately, or fortunately (for exposure purposes), depending on how you look at it for Genocide, they were paired with one of the great Hardcore E.P's of the era. I think that caused their side of the record to be over shadowed. At any rate, its a good effort from the period, just give Syphillis Strain # 5 a listen.
Genocide, were from New Jersey, they were formed around 1979 by Brian and Bobby Ebbs. Besides this split, I think they had a track or two on one of the Dirt Comps, and a full length titled Submit to Genocide. I must admit I never picked up the Lp. Sadly Bobby Ebbs died, I can't find the exact date though.
MIA's origins were in Las Vegas, singer Mike Conley, drummer Chris Moon and guitarist Nick Adams were in a band called The Swell. They broke up in 1981, and moved to Orange County, where they formed MIA. In All, they released this split, three full lengths, and they had a number of compilation appearances. In 1988 they split up. Sadly, in 2008 vocalist Mike Conley was found dead in a Chicago hotel parking lot. Alternative Tentacles released a MIA retrospective called Lost Boys in 2001, you can still get it HERE .

The Frost (Introduces Classical Punk !)

The Frost are going to introduce you to some classical Punk??? Well,..... maybe not unless they're referring to 60's punk, and even then, not so much. What you have here (in my opinion) is a primitive, stripped down, 70's sounding Pop record with some 60's overtones. If I had to make a comparison, think Slickee Boys, meets The Bizarros, with less attitude. I'm not putting this down mind you, I really like it, especially the song Mirrors. I'm rambling because as usual I can't find anything on these guys. I'm going to guess they were from the New England area, and the Matrix tells us, it's from 1981. The back side of the record is blank, and as is the case with most of Destiny's releases, they give you little or no band info.

2 Timers (Living For The Week End Single)

The 2 Timers were from N.Y.C., they formed in 1978, and after playing the area for a few months decided to move to London. It was there they signed to Virgin Records, and release their first single, Now That I've Lost My Baby / Fast And Furious. Sometime after that, they moved back to N.Y. and released this record. It looks as though it was self released, anyway not long after the 2 Timers packed it in. I found a MYSPACE you can check out that goes into a little more detail than me.

Saucers (What We Do Single)

The Saucers were a New Haven Connecticut four piece, founded by Craig Bell. He had moved there from the Cleveland area, where he was in bands such as The Mirrors, and Rocket From the Tombs. (I found THIS ! site that has allot of great PreSaucers info). Muckraker was a RFTT'S song that was written by craig when he was with The Mirrors. In August of 1975, Rocket From the Tombs split in two. David Thomas and Peter Laughner formed Pere Ubu, and Gene O’Connor and original Rockets drummer John Madansky started Frankenstein, who would eventually become The Dead Boys. Craig was asked to join both bands, but declined.
In 1976, he moved to New Haven, and through a series of personal ads started The Saucers in 1977. The band consisted of Bell, (bass guitar and vocals), Mark Mulcahy, (drums and vocals later of Miracle Legion), Malcolm Doak, (keyboards), and Malcolm Marsden, (guitar and vocals). The Saucers went through a couple of line up changes, released two singles, (this being the first) and by 1980, or 81, called it quits. You can purchase all of the Saucers recordings on one disc titled "What We Did", for $11.00, buy it HERE .

The Action (She's Got My Heart Single)

The Action were a three piece, from the Stow, Akron, Ohio area. They formed sometime around 1977, and self released three singles, this being their third . They're all worth owning, but this, and Radio Music, are definitely my favorites. By 1983 they decided to call it quits. Both of these songs are absolute classics. Band members were; Michael Purkhiser, (Guitar, and Vocals) Brian Scherer, (drums) replaced by Cliff Bryant, (Drums on this and the Radio Music single at least) and Brent Warren (Bass, and Vocals). Pushups (Empty Faces Single)

Pushups were a four piece San Fransisco band. This was their only record, which they released themselves in 1979. Empty Faces kind of has a Gary Numan feel to it, while Global Corporation, (my favorite of the two) is more pumped up, sort of reminding me of a New wave sounding Generation X, or even The Headaches. I'm rambling because as usual, there's very little band info out there. I did however find THIS PAGE, which was written by Larry Livermore, who's co founder of Lookout Records amongst other things. He posted Pushups demos there for your listening pleasure.

The Marigolds (I've Had Enough EP)

The Marigolds were from Perth Australia. They formed in 1985, and put out two singles, this being their first.. The band endured multiple lineup changes before eventually calling it quits in 1987. The Reactions

I was hoping I could find more info on these guys, what else is new. Most sites having anything on The Reactions, have them originating from Ft. Lauderdale, but everything I've read points a little further south to Miami Beach.
They formed around 1979, and released two gems on (I assume) their own Reaction Records Label.
The band broke up shortly after their second release, The Love You E.P., singer Tony Supa left the band to take over his families business.
If anyone would like to add to this, or correct me, please feel free. One of the main reasons I do this, is to learn about my favorite records, I like being corrected.

The Flashcubes (Wait Till Next Week Single)

The Flashcubes were a Syracuse, N.Y. four piece who formed around 1977. Band members are guitarists Paul Armstrong and Arty Lenin, bassist Gary Frenay and drummer Tommy Allen. This is the second of two singles on the bands own Northside Records. I considered posting both of them, but I think this one is the better of the two, so I decided to just stick with this one. Unfortunately, my copy isn't in the best condition, but I've been listening to it allot lately, and thought it would be a good one to post. By 1980 The Flashcubes called it quits.
The band reunited in 1993,and released an lp titled Bright Lights which was a mix of old and new material. As recently as 2002 they released another disc titled Brilliant, and did some touring. I'm not sure if they're still going , or not, but you can check them out HERE .

The Blades (Hot For You Single)

It's supposed to climb to over 100 degrees today where I live, so I thought this would be a fitting record to post.The Blades were from Dublin Ireland, they existed from 1977-86, and this was their first single. In all, They released six singles, and one LP. There was two distinct incarnations of the band, with Paul Cleary being the constant. The Zips (Radioactivity Single)

Here's Glasgow Scotland's The Zips second, and final single. It was released on their own Tenement Toons label with a pressing of 1000. The band reunited a few years back, and released some new material, so I guess technically this really wasn't their final record. Anyway, you can check them out HERE and HERE . This single doesn't receive nearly the attention that the first one does, and understandably so, but, it's still a solid record in it's own right. Bas Clas (Physical World Single)

Bas Clas, were a Louisiana four piece formed by brothers Donnie & Steve Picou in 1976. The band name is derived from a Cajun insult/expression meaning "low class." In all they released three singles,(this being the second) on their own, and a CD in 2008 which compiles the singles along with other early recordings. From the beginning the band endured multiple lineup changes, and by 1991, still without a record deal, they decided to call it a day.There have been a few reunions since the break up, HERE'S a link for their official site. Non Compos Mentis (Ultimate Orgasm Single)

Non Compos Mentis, Which means, not of sound mind were a three piece from the Dallas, Texas area. According to the Post Punk Diary Page, they first called themselves The Selecter, until discovering a UK band with the same name. They then changed their name to The Schematics before finally ending up as NCM. VVV records was a store, and a record label ran by Neal Caldwell (Bass, Vocal). In all, they released two singles, and had tracks on the Sacred Cattle EP, and the Live At The Hot Klub Lp. My copy is a second press, (1000 copies) the first press had black and white labels, and had a limited press of 500 copies.

The Last Words (Top Secret Single)

The Last Words were a four piece from Sydney, Australia. They formed in 1977, and were around till 1980. In that span they released three singles, and an LP. Their first single Animal World, was released three times on three different labels. In the UK, it was released by Rough Trade, and reached number eight on the UK Independent Charts. This single contains my favorite track (Walk Away). If I remember right the LP had a slightly different version of it as well. For some reason I sold the LP years ago. One interesting thing about my copy of this single is, the record label lists Today's Kids as the A side, which is from a different record entirely. The Really 3rds (Everyday, Everyway Single)

Here's a pretty obscure record from a band that I could find little about.Boredteenagers says they were a Welsh three piece that changed their name to Shake Some Action, in 1982. This was their only release, and it was a pressing of 1000 with no picture sleeve. I first heard this on one of the Powerpearls comps, but could never find it until recently. Detour Records was selling these on Ebay for $20. If you look there may still be a few left.

The Onits (Weekend Wrestler Single)

The Onits Formed in 1980, in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. They were together until sometime around 1982. Along the way they released this, their only record. I found THIS PAGE , that gives a pretty descent history of the band. I was surprised I found anything at all. According to the page, out of 1000 copies pressed., about 300 were sold to friends, and many were destroyed. I'm not sure if this ever had a picture sleeve or not.

Tweed (Fashion E.P.)

Tweed were a French three piece that seems to have expanded to five later on. Anyway, They were around from 1978 to 1990, and released at least three singles in that span. Other than that, I couldn't find much on them. I found this MYSPACE that yielded little info, but it has a couple of Tweed tracks for sale I've never heard before. de Cylinders (I wanna get married single)

This was the first of three singles for Amsterdam's, de CYLINDERS. They were a six piece band who formed in 1978, and lasted into the early 80's. This record is not impossible to find, however it's gonna set you back a few bucks. You can buy a really well done reissue of this record, along with their second single, from the Sing Sing, record label. Get them while you can. I found some video footage of them from 2009, on the WFMU Radio station out of East Orange N.J.. I don't know if that was a once and done thing or, they've reunited. The Breakers (Radio Love Single)

The Breakers were a L.A Powerpop outfit that formed in 1979 out of the ashes of an acoustic group called Buck Royce Rye. originally a four piece, they became fixtures on L.A's local club scene. This single was released in 1981, so although the bands WEBSITE says they cut down to a three piece in 82, I' going to assume it was a little earlier. Sometime in 83 The Breakers wrapped it up. They have a 2 disc CDR called Past and Way Past with 30 songs on it, you can purchase HERE . They have a cool website as well, go check it out.

Here's a great record from another band I couldn't find any info on. They were a U.K. band that were around in the early 80's. Other than this single, the only other record I've ever seen by them was a split with a Philly band called the Patriots. If anyone would like to fill in the blanks, please be my guest.

The Ugly (Stranded In The Laneway Single)

For a band that had such a bad reputation, this is a really a melodic Pop influenced record. The Ugly were one of the earliest Punk bands from from Toronto’s east end. They formed in 1976 as The Rotten, but changed their name to "The Ugly" when they realized Johnny Rotten had already claimed the name. Being the loudest, and one of most intimidating bands of the Toronto underground, they earned the moniker "hoodlum rockers". One of the bands biggest problems was, at least one of them were constantly in trouble with the law, or in jail. They would often play places off the beatin path to avoid the police, and singer Mike Nightmare would wear disguises, such as a black leather mask or big yellow sunglasses to conceal his identity. As they put it, the band disbanded in 1978 as a result of the never ending chaos. In 1996 Other Peoples Music released a 17 track disc of material recorded in 1977 called "Disorder," that you can pick up HERE . I read, singer Mike Nightmare passed away The next year while in jail. In all, The Ugly appeared on The "And Now Live From Toronto, The Last Pogo comp from 1978",This Single, and a few more recent releases of older material, including a video titled,"The Last Pogo recorded in 1978, released in 2008. The band reunited in 2007, and has a show scheduled on Sat. July 17, 2010. at : The Garrison 1197 Dundas St. West. Toronto, Time: 9:00 PM.Price: $10. The Showbiz Kids (She Goes To Fino's Single)

I couldn't find a whole lot of info on The Showbiz Kids. Here's a few things I came across, I have no way of knowing if there true. The Showbiz Kids were a former band of OLGA (Michael Algar) of Toy Dolls fame. He wrote She Goes To Finos, (which by the way was a night club in their home town of Sunderland England) he is not listed as a band member. The band was around from 1976 to 1981, and named themselves after the Steely Dan song ?I read that Robert Coyle, changed his name from Robert Kent, and then gave the name to the bands drummer. He again changed his name to Robert kane and did time with The Animals, and Dr Feelgood. I couldn't find any thing on Pat Mcmahon, or Phil Hyslop, so if you have any info on the band I'm curious. Both songs are great Pop influenced Punk, Enjoy !!!

The Reducers (Out Of Step Single)

The Cute Lepers (So Screwed Up Single)

Here's a great record from Seattle Washington's The Cute Lepers. Their sound is a mix of 70's retro Powerpop and punk. The band was started by Steve E. Nix of The Briefs in 2007 and I guess you could say they really don't stray too far from the Briefs musically but, they definitely have a poppier edge.
As far as I know they have at least five singles, a couple of splits, and two full lengths. All their records are definitely worth picking up. It looks as though their in the middle of an over seas tour right now promoting their new LP "Smart Accessories". I hope to get a chance to see them live one day. Masterswitch (Action Replay single)

Masterswitch were a London based five piece that formed in 1976. Band members were; Jimmy Edwards, (vocals) Ray Simonee,(guitar) Steve Wilkes, (guitar) Mark Steed, (bass) and Martin Lee (drums).
This was their only release, and what a release it was, a real classic! Unfortunately, due to many of the usual reasons, 1978 saw Masterswitches end.
I found some info on WIKIPEDIA that said: Jimmy and Ray went on to join Time UK with former The Jam drummer Rick Buckler. After three singles they split, although Jimmy and Buckler formed the short-lived Sharp with Buckler's ex-Jam band mate Bruce Foxton. It looks as though, Detour, or one of their affiliated labels is releasing Masterswitches unreleased LP. I couldn't actually find it for sale but for more band info, and info on the LP, you can look HERE .

The Readymades (Terry Is A Space Cadet Single)

The Readymades were a five piece from San Francisco. I believe they were around from 1977 to 79 ? As far as I know, this was their only single. I'm partial to Electric Toys but, Supergirl is pretty cool as well. They also did the theme song for a 415 Records comp. The Freshies (Wrap Up The Rockets Single)

Here's another great single from Manchester's The Freshies. I posted Their Yellow Spot single, a while back, you can check it out HERE . They formed some time in the mid 1970's, and released their first single on Chris Sievey's own Razz Records in 1978. After a number of singles on Razz Records they reached number 54 in the UK charts with Their biggest selling and best known song on MCA records, "I'm In Love With The Girl On The Manchester Virgin Megastore Checkout Desk", renamed as "I'm In Love With The Girl On A Certain Manchester Megastore Checkout Desk" By request of Virgin Records. Two more singles followed on MCA, including this one, and one on Stiff records before calling it a day. Oddly enough they never recorded an album.

The Quick (In Tune With Our Times Single)

The Quick were a Los Angeles five piece that formed around 1975. They had one lp titled : Mondo Deco, on Mercury Records, in 1977, and a couple of limited-edition fan club releases. This single is a reissue of In Tune With Our Times disc, (minus Over The Rainbow). I think they only released a couple hundred originally. The band found little commercial success, and broke up in 1978. There's a couple of great reads HERE and HERE with some great band info. Besides the many Dickies connections, members later went on to be with bands such as ; Great Buildings The Rembrandts, and Three O'Clock. You can pick this record up HERE !!!! Get it while you can.
